9.26.21 목양실에서 (Words From the Pastor)

아내가 2주간 선교여행을 떠나 혼자서 밥을 먹어야 할 때가 있었다. 혼자이기에 뭔가를 만들어 먹는 것은 엄두도 못내고 남겨진 음식들을 데워서 먹거나 라면을 끓여 먹었다. 그래도 타고난 식성 때문인지 혼자서 무엇을 먹어도 단지 주린 배를 채우는 것을 너머 맛이 있었다.

아내가 돌아온 후 더 이상 혼밥이 아니다. 그런데 이상한 것은 밥상에 반찬의 숫자가 늘어나기도 했지만 밥맛이 좋다는 것이다. 더이상 배고픔을 해결하기 위해서가 아니라 밥 자체가 맛이 있어 매번 아내가 준비해준 밥그릇을 비우고 밥솥에서 한 숟가락을 더 떠다 먹고 있다. 그래서 그런지 혼자 먹을 때는 양껏 먹은것 같은데도 뱃살이 빠지는듯 했는데 아내와 같이 밥을 먹기 시작한 후 하루가 다르게 배가 나오고 살이 찌고 있다.

혼밥하듯 혼자서 큐티하고 기도도 하면서 신앙생활을 잘하는 사람이 있다. 요즘같은 시대에 이렇게 주님을 기억하고 찾을 수 있다는 것은 정말 귀한 일이다. 그러나 시대를 깨우고 하나님의 강력한 임재가 있는 부흥은 교회사를 보면 성도들이 하나님을 예배하기 위해 모일 때 일어났다는 것이다. 오순절 성령강림도, 18세기 대각성운동도, 평양 대부흥운동도, 아주사거리 부흥도 모일 때 일어났다. 그 때, 혼밥에서 벗어나 함께 식사할 때 살이 찌듯 복음이 전파되고 제자가 만들어지는 풍성한 부흥의 역사가 있었다는 것이다.

휴스턴 순복음교회를 섬기는 목사로서 여러가지 바램이 있지만 그 중의 하나가 금요예배의 활성화이다. 18년이 넘도록 금요예배가 이어지고 있지만 매번 제일 힘든 것이 금요예배이다. 영적도전과 갈등이 심하다. 그래서 금요예배 대신에 다른 프로그램으로 대체할까하는 유혹이 솔직히 있다. 어느날 이런 마음을 이권율 목사님과 나누었더니 이 목사님도 금요예배 인도가 제일 힘들다고 한다.

우리교회 가운데 주일에는 네번의 예배가 있고 주중에 수요예배와 금요예배가 있고 곧 청년들 중심으로 토요예배도 만들어질 예정이다. 그러면 금요일, 토요일, 주일에 연속으로 예배가 있는 것이다. 그리고 토요일은 많은 분들이 한글학교와 주일 준비로 바쁘다. 그러기에 이런 상황에서 힘든 금요예배를 쉬는것도 괜찮지 않을까 하는 유혹이 있다. 정말 금요예배를 쉬고 싶다는 유혹은 18년 전부터 지금까지 끈질기다.

그런데도 금요예배를 포기하지 못하는 이유는, 아니 포기를 넘어서 금요예배 활성화를 꿈꾸는 이유는, 금요예배가 우리교회 부흥을 가져오는 시발점이기 때문이다.

많은 예배와 성경공부 모임들이 있지만 금요예배처럼 공동체가 모여 성령의 임재를 사모하고, 서로를 위해 기도하고, 교회비전을 선포하는 모임은 없기 때문이다. 그래서 그런지 어떤 분들은 금요예배만 빼고 다 하겠다고 한다. 이처럼 금요예배는 영적이고 우리가 반드시 정복해야할 산성이다.

어제 금요예배 말씀이 ‘적은 능력을 가지고 말씀을 지키고 주의 이름을 배반치 않으면 열린문을 주시겠다’는 것이었다.

그래서 모든 성도님들에게 금요일의 우선순위를 금요예배에 두시길 부탁드립니다.

우리는 순종하고 하나님은 역사하십니다 There was a time when my wife had to go on a missionary trip for two weeks so I had to eat alone. Since I was alone, I couldn't even think of cooking something, so I heated up the leftovers or cooked ramen. Still, perhaps because of his natural appetite, whatever I ate was delicious and filling. After my wife came back, I no longer eat alone. It is strange that the number of side dishes on the table has increased, but the rice tastes the same. I dont eat to relieve hunger anymore, but now I just enjoy the rice itself as it is prepared on the table, so I finish the rice prepared by my wife every time and grab another spoon of rice from the rice cooker. Perhaps that's why when I ate alone, I felt like I was losing my belly fat even though I ate, but after I started eating with my wife, my stomach came out and I gained weight every day. There are people who are good at religious life while being cute and praying alone as if eating alone. In this era, it is very precious to be able to remember and find the Lord by self meditating. However, the revival of the times and the powerful presence of God occurred when believers gathered to worship God together. It took place through the power of the Holy Spirit in Ganglimdo Island, the 18th century Daegakseongundongdo Island, the Pyongyang Daebuheungundongdo Island, and the Azusa revival. At that time, there was a rich history of revival in which the gospel was spread and disciples were made as if gaining weight when eating together. As a pastor who serves Houston Full Gospel Church, I have many wishes, but one of them is Friday service. For 18 years, we’ve been doing Friday Service, but it is the most difficult ministry. Spiritual challenges and temptations are severe. So I honestly have been tempted to change Friday Service and focus on other ministries. One day I shared this hardship with Pastor David, and he agreed as well. Our church has four services on Sunday, one service on Wednesday, a service on Friday and we’re planning for a Saturday service for KM Young Adults in the future. This means we’ll have many services back to back. And Saturday is very busy as well because we have Korean School and preparations for Sunday Services. So I have been tempted to cancel our Friday Service for the past 18 years. But the reason why we can’t stop Friday Services is because we have a dream that these services will bring revival to the Church. Even though there are many bible studies and gatherings, during Friday Services, many gather through the Holy Spirit to pray for each other and proclaim their visions for the church. However, some members have said they would stop attending Friday Service, but will still come to every other service. We need to overcome this temptation, and still attend Friday Service. This past Friday’s Service message was even though we are weak, as long as we don’t forsake God he will continue to open doors. So I encourage all the saints of our church remember the importance of Friday Service and to continually come out. Your prayers keep our church alive. If we obey, God will continue to perform miracles.
