4.18.21 목양실에서 (A Note From the Pastor)

어제는 선교기금 마련을 위한 crawfish boil이 있었습니다. 시커먼 먹구름이 온 하늘을 덮고 있어도 일기예보에서는 비 올 확률이 10%라고 하여서인지 그 누구도 걱정하지 않고 텐트를 치고, gas통을 나르고, crawfish를 세척하면서 crawfish boil을 준비했습니다.

그런데 웬일....갑자기 일기예보에서 오전 9시에 비 올 확률이 80%라고 하더니 이를 증명하듯 찬 바람과 함께 굵은 빗방울이 떨어지기 시작했습니다. 그래서 다급히 친교실로 뛰어가면서 "권사님들 기도해 주세요. 비가 오려고 해요"라고 외쳤더니 누군가가 "우리교회 행사에는 비가 안 와요"라고 화답합니다. 밖에 시커먼 구름과 함께 부는 찬바람을 보고 하시는 말씀인지... 떨어지기 시작한 빗방울을 보면서 하시는 말씀인지.... 이런 생각을 하면서 잠시 나갔다 돌아오니 권사님 세 분이 친교실 한쪽에 앉아서 간절히 기도하고 계셨습니다. 엘리야가 갈멜산에서 기도하듯 간절히 기도하시는 모습이 참 아름답게 느껴졌습니다. 기도하시는 권사님들의 모습을 보니 어제 금요예배 시간에 "행사만 치르지 말고 예수님과 함께 동행하는 선교바자회가 되게 해달라"고 드렸던 기도가 생각이 나면서 이 또한 기도한 사람들만 아는 간증이 될 것이라는 믿음이 생겼습니다. 그리고 기도 응답으로 그 시커먼 구름이 빠르게 지나가더니 흐린 날씨와 시원한 바람 속에서 crawfish boil를 하게 되었습니다. 휴스턴에서 이보다 좋은 날씨가 또 있을까 하는 생각에 감사가 저절로 나왔습니다.

어제 crawfish boil은 2세들(EM&Youth)이 세척을 하고, 1세들(남성)은 요리하고, 여성들은 오뎅과 떡볶이를 만들고, 청년들은 붕어빵을 굽고, 아브라함선교회는 지인들을 불러 음식을 사서 드시는 모습을 보면서 온 세대의 동참이기에 가능하고, 이것은 온 세대의 작품이라 생각했습니다. 그래서인지 오신 분들마다 이구동성으로 "활력이 있어 보여 좋다" "오랜만에 이렇게 많은 사람들이 모인 모습을 보니 좋다"면서 칭찬해 주셨습니다.

40여 개의 자루에 담겨있는 1,547파운드의 crawfish를 보는 순간, '이 많은 것을 누가 씻고, 누가 삶고, 누구에게 팔 것인가?' 하는 걱정도 있었지만 못 팔면 성도님들에게 5파운드씩 부탁해야지 하고 생각하니 마음이 편해졌습니다.

종종 사람들은 저에게 겁도 없이 일을 만든다고 합니다. 솔직히 저는 겁이 없는 것이 아니라 믿는 구석이 있기 때문에 일을 만드는 것이 무섭지 않습니다. 첫째는, 하나님이 하게 하셨다는 믿음(이번에도 어느 성도님이 시작하기도 전에 $10,000을 헌금해 주심)과 둘째는, 제가 일을 만들어도 말없이 따라와 주시고 일을 이루어내는 성도님들이 계시기 때문입니다.

어제도 수고 많으셨습니다.

하나님이 함께하시고 여러분이 함께하시니 두려울 것이 없습니다.

홍형선 목사 드림 Yesterday there was a crawfish boil to raise money for missions. Even when the black dark clouds covered the whole sky, the weather forecast said that the probability of rain was 10% so no one was worried about it. We prepared a crawfish boil by setting up a tent, carrying a gas cylinder, and washing the crawfish. But for some reason...

Suddenly the weather forecast said that there was an 80% chance of rain at 9 am, and as a proof of this, thick raindrops began to fall along with the cold wind. So, as I ran to the communion room in a hurry, I cried out, "Please pray for us, it's going to rain." Someone answered, “In our church festivals, it does not rain.” I wondered if they saw the cold breeze blowing with the black clouds outside and said this... Are they saying this while seeing the raindrops that have started falling.... While I was thinking about these thoughts, I saw people praying at the side of the sanctuary. Like Elijah praying earnestly as he prayed on Mount Carmel, the members praying together was beautiful to see. When I saw the members praying, I remembered the prayer that I said yesterday at Friday service, saying, "Let it not just be an event, but let it be a missionary bazaar that walks with Jesus." In response to prayer, the black cloud quickly passed, and in cloudy weather and cool breeze, I started crawfish boil. I wondered if there is any better weather like this is Houston as I became thankful.

Yesterday's crawfish boil was washed by the second generation ( (EM&Youth), the first generation (male) cooked, the women made fish cake and tteokbokki, the young people baked bread, and the Abraham Missions called acquaintances to buy and eat. It is possible because of the participation, and I thought this was the work of the whole generation. Perhaps this is why whoever came said, "It's good to see you have vitality" and "It's nice to see so many people gathered in a long time."

The moment I saw 1547 pounds of crawfish in 40 or so sacks, I thought who will wash this, who will boil it, and who will we sell it to? I was worried, but I felt at ease as I was thinking about asking the members to buy five pounds each.

Often people tell me that I make situations without thinking about the results. Honestly, I am not afraid of making things because I have a corner of trust. First, I believe that God has created this opportunity (even in this event, before it started, a member donated $10,000), the second is because there are believers who silently follow me and make things happen.

Everyone worked hard yesterday.

Since God is with you, there is nothing to be afraid of.
