4.25.21 목양실에서 (A Note From the Pastor)

우리교회가 속한 Assemblies of God 교단 헌법에 의하면 개교회 담임목사의 목회권에는 기본적으로 강대권(설교), 재정권, 인사 행정권이 있습니다. 이 세 가지는 담임목사의 절대 권한이며 동시에 책임입니다.

하지만 담임목사 혼자서 이 모든 것을 감당할 수 없어 누군가에게 위임하여 함께 사역을 이끌고 나가는 것이 교회입니다.

예를 들어 설교 같은 경우 담임목사가 KM에서 설교하면서 동시에 EM, 주일학교, 유스에서 설교할 수 없어 전문 사역자를 세우고 그들에게 위임한 후 설교하고 목회하게 하지만 실상은 담임목사를 대신하여 설교하고 목회하는 것입니다.

재정권(물질) 같은 경우도 담임목사의 권한이며 책임이지만 재정의 투명성을 위하여 전문성 있는 재정위원회에 위임 후 운영위원회와 상의하고 감사위원들의 감사를 받으면서 재정을 집행하고 관리합니다.

그리고 인사 행정권의 경우는 장로, 권사회에서 추천 후 성도들(공동의회)의 2/3 이상의 찬성으로 세워진 운영위원님들과 기도하면서 교회의 모든 인사와 행정을 집행합니다. 그러나 담임목사에게는 강대권과 재정권과 인사 행정권에 대한 일차적 책임이 있다는 사실 앞에 담임목사는 늘 깨어 있어야 합니다.

18년 이상 휴스턴 순복음교회를 섬기며 저의 설교 스타일은 본문 중심의 강해설교입니다. 개인적으로 사랑하는 성도님들과 창세기부터 요한계시록까지 성경 전체를 나눌 수 있었다는 것은 큰 기쁨이었습니다. 그런데 설교 후 종종 "어떻게 저의 상황을 잘 알고 계세요" "누가 저에 대해 말해주었어요?" "오늘 설교는 제 이야기네요" "어떻게 저에게 그렇게 말씀하실 수 있으세요?"라고 말씀하시는 성도님들을 만나게 됩니다.

그런데 분명한 것은 이제까지 말씀을 준비하면서 최대한 본문에 근거하여 준비하려고 했다는 사실과 어느 한 사람을 염두에 두고 말씀을 준비한 적이 없다는 것입니다. 그리고 본문에 근거해서 준비하다 보니 말씀 내용은 항상 보편성에 근거하고 있다는 것입니다. 강해설교의 장점 중 하나가 어떤 본문으로 말씀 준비할까 하는 고민이 없기에 저는 주일예배가 끝난 직후 주일 오후부터 다음 주일 설교 준비를 합니다. 먼저 본문을 충실히 읽고 묵상하면서 주석의 도움으로 원문(히브리어, 헬라어)의 의도가 무엇인지에 대해 도움을 받습니다. 그리고 다른 목회자들의 설교를 적어도 세 편 이상 듣습니다. 이렇게 준비하다 보니 설교 내용은 항상 보편성에 근거하여 말씀 준비를 합니다.

그런데 감사한 것은 본문에 근거해 말씀을 나누었지만 선포된 말씀이 우리교회를 인도한다는 사실과 많은 때에 그 누구보다 나 자신(홍목사)에게 하시는 말씀으로 들려온다는 것입니다.

제가 계속해서 하나님의 말씀만 증거 하도록 기도 부탁합니다.

우리는 순종하고 하나님은 역사하십니다.

According to the denomination of our church, Assemblies of God, the pastor of every church has the right to preach, have inputs in church finance, and church logistics. These three are the main responsibilities and power that a pastor has at a church.

However pastor alone cannot fulfill all, so the church works together to fulfill the responsibilities. For example, if the pastor speaks at the KM service, at the same time, the pastor cannot speak for the Em, Sunday School and Youth. Therefore, each minister and pastor is there to fulfill those roles to speak on behalf of the head pastor. Financially, the head pastor has the right and power but for the sake of transparency, the board members are apart of all church finances. Also, the logistics is carried out with the board members who were suggested by the elders of the church. However, the pastor has the first responsibility over all these three things, therefore the pastor must be awake at all times.

Serving FGH Church for over 18 years, the style of my sermon is scripture based preaching. Personally, to share the word of God from the beginning Genesis to the end Revelations was a big joy to me also. However, after the sermon, quiet frequently, people would come up to me and say “How do you know of my situation so well?” “Did someone tell you of my situation?” “Today’s sermon is my story” “How are you able to speak to me so clearly?”

One thing certainly is that until now, I have always focused only on scripture as I prepare for my sermon and I have never prepared my sermon with a person in mind. Because I am preparing my sermon with scripture focused, it is flexible and can be applied to all people. Every sunday after the service, I start preparing for the next week’s sunday sermon. First, I read the scripture multiple times then study the word to look up original meaning from Hebrew, Greek to understand the purpose of the author. Then, I listen to three different sermons by other pastors.

One thankful thing is that through the sermon, our church is led by this word and that the sermon is directly speaking towards me myself. Please continue to intercede for me to preach only the word of God.
